The purpose of our club is to educate students about artificial intelligence, specifically machine learning, and it’s interdisciplinary topics especially since it is rapidly growing worldwide. In fact, the number of businesses that adopted AI grew by 270% in four years and the global AI market is expected to reach $267 Billion by 2027.
We will be covering interdisciplinary topics that involve artificial intelligence from everyday things such as social media to industrial fields such as healthcare. Additionally, we will introduce students to Kaggle, which is an online data science community equipped with the most powerful tools and resources for AI (owned by Google). It allows students to create their own AI models, publish data sets, and enter into machine learning competitions. Some examples include solving real life problems such as predicting cancer, examining Covid 19 datasets, and much more. Entering into these competitions benefits students, as it motivates them to rank higher and improve their models. Competitions not only help students, but they actually can have a large impact on society. For example, numerous competitions improved lives by enhancing HIV/AIDs research and traffic forecasting. It can also enhance their resume and can help them get AI internships later on. We also plan to offer various opportunities for club members such as holding webinars with professionals in the field of technology to inform them of various real life applications and interdisciplinary topics, as well as volunteering at local middle schools to inspire and educate those students of the endless opportunities in technology, artificial intelligence, and applying them in other fields.
Some interdisciplinary topics we will be exploring are healthcare and social media. AI can be applied in healthcare such as in drug discovery, clinical diagnosis, and disease detection. In social media, AI is used for compiling recommendations for the user based on data from the past such as shown on the Youtube Homepage.
